Levonorgestrel 1.5mg is a form of emergency contraception, commonly called the morning-after pill. It is taken after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure to help reduce the chance of pregnancy. It works as a hormonal contraceptive that inhibits or postpones ovulation, which can prevent fertilisation.
It can be taken within 72 hours (3 days) of unprotected sex and is more effective the sooner you take it — ideally within 12 hours. It should not be used as regular contraception and does not protect against STIs.

How it works
How levonorgestrel works
Levonorgestrel is most effective when taken as soon as possible. Approximate effectiveness after unprotected sex: about 95% within 24 hours, about 85% between 25 and 48 hours, and about 58% between 49 and 72 hours. It will not prevent pregnancy from unprotected sex that happens after you take it.

- Spotting before your next period Your next bleed may come early or late. Do a pregnancy test if your period is more than 7 days late, or if it is unusually light.
