Beconase contains beclometasone, a steroid that reduces nasal inflammation caused by allergy.

Using treatment

How to use Beconase nasal spray

TWO sprays in each nostril twice daily. Once symptoms settle, reduce to ONE spray in each nostril twice daily. Maximum 8 sprays per day.

  1. Start with the full dose

    Two sprays in each nostril twice daily until symptoms improve.

  2. Reduce when settled

    Then one spray in each nostril twice daily for maintenance.

  3. Stay within the maximum

    Do not use more than 8 sprays in a day.

  4. Watch for warnings

    Stop and seek advice for wheezing, severe allergy, or blurred vision.

Contains benzalkonium chloride which may cause wheezing, especially in asthma — stop and seek medical advice if needed.

Similar to beclometasone spray: sneezing after use, dry or painful nose or throat, nose bleeds, and occasional mild skin reactions.

  • Sneezing after spraying You may sneeze a little immediately after spraying; this usually settles quickly.
  • Dry or painful nose or throat, nose bleeds Common local effects. Seek advice if bleeding is heavy or persistent.
  • Unpleasant taste or smell Can occur after use. Seek advice if it worries you.
  • Mild allergic skin reactions Rash, redness, itching or weals like hives. Stop and seek medical advice if this occurs.
  • Steroid-related cautions Long-term or high-dose nasal steroids can rarely be linked to adrenal effects, growth concerns in children, cataract, glaucoma or mood/behaviour changes. Report blurred vision to your GP or ophthalmologist.
