  • You are under 6 years old
  • You are allergic to beclometasone or any spray ingredient
  • You get wheezing or breathing difficulty from benzalkonium chloride and need to stop and seek advice
  • You need urgent care for severe asthma attack or severe allergic reaction

Using treatment

How to use beclometasone 50mcg nasal spray

TWO sprays in each nostril twice daily (400mcg/day). Once symptoms settle, reduce to ONE spray in each nostril twice daily. Maximum 8 sprays per day.

  1. Prime and position

    Follow the leaflet to prime the spray. Gently blow your nose and keep your head upright.

  2. Use the starting dose

    Two sprays in each nostril twice daily until symptoms settle.

  3. Reduce for maintenance

    Once controlled, reduce to one spray in each nostril twice daily. Do not exceed 8 sprays a day.

  4. Mind eye symptoms

    Heavy pollen seasons may still need eye treatment such as olopatadine — contact us if eyes remain troublesome.

Safety information

Contains benzalkonium chloride, which may cause wheezing especially if you have asthma — stop and seek medical advice if this happens.

Contact your GP or ophthalmologist for blurred vision or other visual disturbances. Long-term steroid use has rare systemic risks listed in the leaflet.

You may sneeze after spraying. Common effects include dry or painful nose or throat and nose bleeds. Mild skin allergic reactions can occur.

  • Unpleasant taste or smell Can occur after use. Seek advice if it worries you.
  • Mild allergic skin reactions Rash, redness, itching or weals like hives. Stop and seek medical advice if this occurs.
  • Steroid-related cautions Long-term or high-dose nasal steroids can rarely be linked to adrenal effects, growth concerns in children, cataract, glaucoma or mood/behaviour changes. Report blurred vision to your GP or ophthalmologist.
