How it works

How Avamys works

Avamys is a glucocorticoid nasal spray. It works by reducing inflammation linked with seasonal allergies. It inhibits chemical signals that trigger inflammation and allergic reactions, which can ease discomfort and irritation in the nasal passages. Some people notice an effect within 8 to 24 hours, but several days of regular use are often needed for the best result.

  1. Online consultation

Tell us about your symptoms, how long they have lasted, your age, medical history and current medicines.

  2. Clinical review

A UK-registered clinician checks whether a steroid nasal spray such as Avamys is appropriate.

  3. If suitable, we dispense

Approved treatment is dispensed by our pharmacy and delivered discreetly, with clear directions for use.

  4. Use it every day

Best results come from using Avamys daily without missed doses, exactly as the leaflet and label advise.

Using treatment

How to use Avamys nasal spray

Dosage for 12 years and above: two sprays in each nostril once a day. Follow the patient information leaflet supplied with your medicine.

  1. Prepare the spray

Shake and prime the device as the leaflet describes before first use, or if you have not used it for a while.

  2. Place the nozzle

Tilt your head forward a little. Hold Avamys upright and place the nozzle in one nostril, pointing toward the side of your nose and away from the centre.

  3. Press and breathe in

Firmly press the button once to spray while breathing in through your nose. Do not get any spray in your eyes — if you do, rinse well with water.

  4. Finish the dose

Take the nozzle out, breathe out through your mouth, then repeat in the other nostril so you have two sprays in each nostril once a day.

  5. Keep to a daily routine

Avamys may start to help within 8 to 24 hours, but several days of consistent use are often needed for full effect. Do not miss doses.
